Illinois was one of twenty-six states that was involved with writing a new set of science standards, called the Next Generation Science Standards, or NGSS. The final draft of these standards was released in April 2013, and states across the country are beginning to adopt them. As of right now, only six states have officially adopted the NGSS: California, Kansas, Kentucky, Maryland, Rhode Island, and Vermont. However, more than forty states have shown interest in the standards, and they are expected to adopt them within the next couple of years.

On this page, you will find information about the new science standards, as well as information regarding their adoption/implementation in Illinois.
