What are Family Science Nights?

Family Science Nights are programs that are available throughout the school year for students and parents in our community who would like to add a dash of science to their lives! These programs are offered one Friday every month, and anyone can sign up. The cost is $17 per participant, and pizza is provided at the start of the event. All events are from 6-8 pm, unless otherwise noted.

Spooky Science!

Friday, October 7th OR Friday, October 21st

Get into the Halloween spirit this year with the Challenger Learning Center! This special version of our popular Messy Science night features messy and spooky hands-on science activities that are fun for everyone! Our staff will also be putting on some “spooktacular” science demonstrations.

This program is now offered TWICE during October! Costumes are optional, but encouraged!

Registration for the 10/21 program is now closed. Please call to be put on the wait list.

Family Mission – Rendezvous With a Comet

Friday, November 11th

Ages: 4th grade and above

Note: This event is from 6:00-8:30pm

This Family Science Night is out of this world! Participants will go on a daring mission to take an up-close look at a comet as it streaks its way across the galaxy. Their goal is to plot a successful course to rendezvous with the comet, launch a probe to collect scientific data of the object, and keep the astronauts safe. What seems at first to be a routine exploration is filled with challenges and emergencies, and each obstacle that stands in the way of the mission requires all participants to work together as a team in order to make the mission a success!

Extreme Robotics: MOSS/Cubelets

Friday, March 10th

Ages: 2nd grade and above

Learn how to make robotics that move on their own and appear to “think” without programming them! These magnetic robots don’t need wires or programming in order to function – just snap them together and watch them go! Families will learn how to operate robots from two different robotics kits (MOSS and Cubelets) with instruction from our trained facilitators, and then they will work in teams to complete a variety of design challenges. Come prepared to be creative!

Extreme Robotics: LEGO WeDos

Friday, March 24th

Ages: 2nd grade and above

Have you ever wanted to create a robot that can move, spin, and even make noise? Now is your chance! With our LEGO WeDo kits, families have the chance to build their very own robotic critters, and will learn how to program them to perform different actions.
